Ear Mites in Cats

Ear mites feast on debris present in your cat's ears. These parasites are most common in outdoor and stray cats, though house cats may be susceptible as well, especially in households with more than one cat.

Signs of ear mites include:

  • black discharge in ears
  • scratching at ears
  • shaking head

To treat ear mites, a thorough treatment by your veterinarian should be followed by prescription medication. Eardrops, oral medications, and injections will help clear up conditions. Dips, sprays, and powders can be used afterward to prevent additional outbreaks.
