Chew on This

By CatAge Staff

Do you think dry food is the key to feline dental health? Here's why a canned food diet doesn't necessarily mean bad teeth.

Cats chew only a small portion of the food they eat because their teeth are made for tearing meat rather than grinding food. A diet of exclusively canned food will cause more tartar to build up on the teeth, but this can be prevented with tartar-control cat treats or a vet-prescribed dental diet. Brush your cat's teeth frequently and schedule regular dental cleanings to keep your cat's mouth in top shape.
